Presto is run by Nai Digital. The short version: you can read without an account, your books stay on your device, and we don’t use ads, analytics or tracking. If you make an account to sync across devices, we store only what sync needs, and you can delete it at any time.

Without an account

Everything you import or read (books, reading positions, stats and settings) is stored on your device: in your browser’s storage on the web, and in the app’s storage on desktop and mobile. None of it is sent to us. Reminders are scheduled on your device.

Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes technical data such as your IP address and browser when you load the site, the app or the free classics, to deliver them and protect against abuse. We don’t use it to identify or profile you.

With an account

Accounts are optional and only used for syncing. When you have one, we store:

  • Your account: your email address and sign-in details, handled by our sign-in provider, Clerk.
  • Stats and settings (every account): words read and reading time per day, including how much you read at each speed, and your reading settings such as speed and font. This is what keeps your streak and settings the same on every device.
  • Your library (only if library sync is on for your account): each book’s file, its text and cover, its title, author and length, and your reading position. We store these so they can be downloaded to your other devices. We don’t read, share or analyse your books.
  • Connected devices: for the desktop app, a sign-in token with the device’s name and when it was last used, so you stay signed in.

Browser extension

The Presto extension only reads a page when you choose to save it, and it hands what you save to the Presto web app in the same browser. The extension itself doesn’t send anything to us or anyone else. What it saves is then treated like any book you import: kept on your device, and synced only if you have library sync.

Error reports

If the app or our server runs into an error, a report may be sent to our error-reporting provider (Sentry) so we can fix it. It contains technical details: the error, the app version, your browser or device type and the page it happened on. We set it up not to include your book text, your email address or your IP address.

Who processes your data

  • Cloudflare: hosting, our database and file storage (for accounts and library sync).
  • Clerk: sign-in and account management.
  • Sentry: error reports.

They process data on our behalf and only to provide their service. Their servers may be outside your country. We don’t sell your data or share it with advertisers, and we don’t use it to train AI models.

How long we keep it

Account data stays until you delete it or your account. When you delete your account, its data is removed straight away; our database provider keeps recovery copies for up to 30 days, only for restoring after a failure. We keep the random ID of deleted accounts (not your email) so a device that was signed in can’t upload data back to it. Error reports are kept for up to 90 days.

Your choices and rights

  • Use Presto without an account, and nothing about your reading leaves your device.
  • Delete your account and its data in the app: Settings → Sync across devices → Delete account. SeeDelete your account.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing support@prestoreader.com.
  • Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Presto isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly create accounts for them.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date above. For significant changes, we’ll also tell you in the app before they apply.
